University of Charlotte Parts Ways with Athletic Director Mike Hill Mid-Tenure
The University of Charlotte has parted ways with its athletic director, Mike Hill, after just 13 months into a four-year extension. Hill's departure comes amidst a struggling football season and a review of the athletics department's approach.
Hill, who led the men's basketball team to a record of 90-91, leaves Charlotte after seven seasons as athletic director. During his tenure, the football team had a record of 26-47. This season, under coach Tim Albin, the team is currently 1-5.
The decision to fire Hill was made following careful consideration and a recognition of the need for a new direction in the university's athletics. Jesh Humphrey, the vice chancellor for institutional integrity and general counsel, will oversee the department on an interim basis. Meanwhile, Lee DeSelms has taken over as the interim director of the athletics department.
Mike Hill's departure from the University of Charlotte signals a shift in the athletics department's strategy. The university will now operate under interim leadership as it seeks a new approach to higher education athletics.
