University Athletics: A Competitive Spectacle in Campus Life

Colorado's Christian team sweeps every Division II competition they've participated in this season, finishing runner-up only in a single Division I event, the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

University Athletics: A Competitive Spectacle in Campus Life

Heck yeah, let's dive into the jaw-dropping story of Colorado Christian University's (CCU) Division II men's golf team! This powerhouse squad, led by 53-year-old coach Mark Hull, is currently tearing it up as the top-ranked team in the nation. But, it wasn't always smooth sailing for these Cougars.

Hull began his tenure at CCU in 2004, holding a humble roster consisting of just two guys – an incoming freshman and a returner who had never scored below 80 in a tournament. No biggie, right? Wrong! The team was, like, the worst in Division II that season.

Flash forward to 2025, and they're not just the best team in Division II, but also the best Colorado collegiate golf team ever. They've won a national title for CCU, the first in any sport, and they're cruising toward a repeat performance.

The standout players on this squad are no joke. Number one on the list is Adam Duncan, who won four tournaments with an average score of 68.5. This California native made history as the only Division II golfer to represent the United States in the prestigious Arnold Palmer Cup this year.

Joining Duncan is Sungyeop Cho at number two, Sangha Park in third, and Xavier Bighaus at sixth, with Bradley Mulder at 54th and Peyton Jones contributing to the team's success. Fun fact: Bighaus would likely be the number one player for every other Division II team in the nation!

Despite their impressive record, the Cougars aren't taking anything for granted. They stumbled at regionals two years ago, blowing an eight-stroke lead and missing the national tournament by one stroke. So, they're using that experience to fuel their drive to dominate this season.

These golfers didn't become the best by accident. CCU has been a destination for top golfers from the transfer portal and has retained its existing talent. Emily Park, a graduate transfer from University of Texas Permian Basin, won the RMAC title last year, while Xavier Bighaus decided to stay at CCU despite offers from Power 4 schools, citing the program's unmatched culture and family atmosphere.

CCU may not have produced a professional player on a major tour yet, but their current top-ranked quartet is just getting started and could change that in the coming years. These Cougars are on a roll, shining brightly under Hull's expert guidance and playing for something bigger than themselves – their team.

If you're into college sports, don't miss this one! The 2025 postseason began on May 5, and we'll be watching with bated breath as the CCU golfers aim for a second consecutive national title. Will they make history again? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure – they're going to give it their all. Go Cougars!
