Université Summer Games in Gelsenkirchen kicked off with a melodious performance by the local choir.

In an unforgettable moment, the Young Choir Beckhausen from Gelsenkirchen took centre stage at the World University Games opening ceremony held in Duisburg MSV-Arena on Wednesday evening. The choir, with its 65 members aged between 20 and 70, played a significant supporting role in the event.

The journey to this prestigious performance began two months ago when the choir was invited to participate. The organizers, impressed by the choir's reputation and performance history, agreed to their last-minute suggestion to have a conductor stand in front of them to synchronize their performances with the WDR Symphony Orchestra.

As the ceremony commenced, the choir opened with "Steigerlied," a popular song that immediately captivated the audience of 23,000 spectators. The choir's leader, Wolfgang Wilger, described the experience as "electrifying." The audience was so moved that they joined in the singing, creating a powerful and unified sound.

Following this, the choir, along with ten other choirs, performed "Gaudeamus igitur," the anthem of all students. The performance was an impressive sight, with the choir members standing in two large groups in front of the huge stage. The synchronized performance with the WDR Symphony Orchestra added a grandeur to the event that left the audience in awe.

The Young Choir Beckhausen also had the honour of singing the German national anthem during the ceremony. The choir's members, who traveled to Duisburg Sports Park for rehearsals, were thrilled to be a part of this special event. After the performance, the choir leader reported that all the participants were overjoyed and grateful for the opportunity.

The World University Games, which will continue until July 27 in five Ruhr cities, including Zollverein in Essen-Katernberg, was broadcast to millions worldwide. Everything was meticulously planned, from the choir's performances to the grand spectacle that unfolded on the stage.

The Young Choir Beckhausen's performance at the World University Games opening ceremony is a testament to the power of music and the joy it brings to people. Their journey to this major event involved networking, auditions, selection, and community support, reflecting the dedication and hard work of the choir and its members.

During the interval of the World University Games opening ceremony, a sudden shift from the grand spectacle took place as the Young Choir Beckhausen gracefully entered the stage, filling the MSV-Arena with an enchanting air of entertainment. Amidst the sports events, the choir's performance served as a refreshing burst of harmony and unity, momentarily merging sports and entertainment in a truly captivating display.
