United States' Second State Experiences Incursion by Protesters
Your New, Fresh, Original Version
Hustle and Bustle in the Lone Star State
With a nod to peace, Governor Greg Abbott has dispatched Texas National Guard troops across the state, ensuring and stating, "we're here to keep the peace, so long as it's peaceful." He asserted on social media platform X, "protesting is perfectly legal, but causing chaos isn't—and will land you behind bars."
Protests, initially sparked in LA over immigration raids, have ignited cities far and wide, with Texas nodes in Austin and Dallas seeing more than a dozen arrests. Abbott wants to nip things in the bud, emphasizing, "protesting is allowed, but if you step out of line, you'll be slapped with cuffs faster than Dale Earnhardt Jr. at the pole position."
The same dance has been playing out in Kentucky and Georgia towns like Louisville and Atlanta, with New York cops nabbing a slew of protesters outside an ICE office. In California, things took a nasty turn, with skirmishes between citizens and police ending in tear gas and stun grenades. Spurred by this chaos, President Donald Trump has rallied 2,000 National Guard soldiers to the LA streets—much to the distaste of California's own governor, Gavin Newsom, who's gone so far as to sue Trump for sidelining state authorities.
Trump's retort has been to liken Newsom's leadership to a burning match, while questioning the populace's ability to stand the heat of these protests. At the same time, he's playfully suggested to journalists a liking for the idea of arresting the Golden State's governor.
Overnight June 11, LA Mayor Karen Bass instituted a city-center curfew due to rampant looting at 23 retail locations. Stonks like Adidas, the Apple Store, pharmacies, and even a jeweler were targeted. Bass' plea to steer clear was clear, "Avoid downtown Los Angeles unless you live or work there. Staying out after curfew means getting caught, and you'll face the music for it."
