In the northwest of the country, a high-ranking IS jihadist wearing the name Rakhim Boev met his untimely demise courtesy of a US airstrike, according to US Army statements. The precision strike aimed at Boev, a Syria-based ISIS operative, was reported by the US Central Command (Centcom) responsible for Middle Eastern affairs on a popular online platform using another acronym for IS.

Boev, a notable figure in the terrorist group's ranks, had been involved in plotting external operations that posed a potential threat to US citizens, partners, and civilians, as claimed by Centcom. A video showcasing a severely damaged SUV with a shattered windshield and caved-in roof was released as evidence.

Earlier in the year, Syrian rescue workers provided details to AFP about two casualties resulting from two separate drone strikes striking a car and a motorcycle on a Tuesday in Idlib. At first, the US Central Command didn't respond to a request for comment on the matter.

With about 2,000 US soldiers stationed in Syria as part of the international anti-IS coalition, the alliance emerged in 2014 with a mission to dismantle the "caliphate" once claimed by the IS militia in Syria and Iraq. Despite the jihadists being labelled as defeated since 2019, many fighter cells retreated to sprawling desert areas in both nations, remaining a persistent threat.
