United States could potentially offer aerial support to uphold a truce in Ukraine, as per President Trump's statement.

The path to peace in Ukraine remains uncertain, as Russia launched a significant air assault hours after a summit. In a move that could potentially shift the balance of power, President Donald Trump has outlined a potential role for the United States in providing military support to Ukraine.

Trump has suggested that the U.S. would focus on intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), command and control systems, and air defense support, rather than deploying troops on the ground. The U.S. would not send "boots on the ground" in Ukraine, but would assist by providing advanced military capabilities from the air and through coordination efforts with European allies.

The U.S. President confirmed that Washington would participate in the "coordination" of postwar security guarantees for Ukraine, including using U.S. satellite resources for monitoring compliance with any ceasefire and supporting coordinated operations of Western forces. This support is conditional on European countries contributing tens of thousands of troops for a peacekeeping mission.

Russia, however, carried out its largest air assault in over a month, launching 270 drones and 10 missiles, according to Ukraine's air force. The attack caused major fires at energy facilities in the Poltava region, where Ukraine's only oil refinery is located.

Trump's approach to negotiating peace has been described as more instinctive than process-oriented. No specific European allies were named in Trump's statement, but he indicated that Europeans are willing to deploy personnel on the ground in Ukraine. The specifics of U.S. military involvement, such as the type of air support, remain unclear.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that U.S. military involvement, such as providing support and security guarantees, is an option and a possibility, but U.S. troops will not be deployed on Ukrainian soil. Trump's statement was reported by Reuters.

Trump has also suggested that the U.S. might offer support, particularly air support, to European allies in Ukraine, in an effort to end Russia's war in Ukraine. The path to peace remains uncertain, but the potential involvement of the U.S. could be a significant development in the ongoing conflict.
