United States Cardinal ascends as the latest Pope.

A brand-spankin' new Pope has graced the Vatican's hallowed halls! The one and only Cardinal Robert Prevo, hailing from the good ol' US of A, has stepped up to the plate as Leo XIV - the very first American Pope in the 2,000+ year history of the Catholic Church. Elderly Chicagoan by birth, and half-Peruvian by blood, our new leader spent a significant chunk of his life as a missionary in South America. Having served as the head honcho of the Vatican's bishop appointment office, it's no surprise that he aims to keep the ball rolling with Pope Francis' reforms.

In an exclusive chat with Vatican News, Prevo shared his thoughts on his new role: "I ain't no stranger to missionary work. It's been my calling since day one, just like every Christian should be."

U.S. President Trump took to Truth Social, the hottest social media platform, to extend his warmest congratulations to the new Pope. He tweeted: "Big congrats to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevo, the first-ever American Pope, now known as Pope Leo XIV! Exciting times ahead for our country! Can't wait to meet the man!"

Interestingly, the Rome gatherin' – affectionately known as the conclave – needed three tries to elect our new Pope. The powers that be could finally make a decision on May 8, 2025.

Francis, our departed pontiff, left this earthy realm on April 21 at the ripe old age of 88. Amidst his final farewells in the Vatican, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his condolences.

As news of Pope Francis' passing spread, a bunch of potential successors emerged. Soon after, it was announced that the conclave to elect the 267th Pope would kick off on May 7, post the masses for the late Francis.
