United States at risk of transitioning into an "authoritarian government structure," as reported by John Legend.
Fearless Pop Star John Legend Slams Trump, Warns About Slide Toward Authoritarianism
Musician John Legend (46) has never been shy about his criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump, and he's not planning to stop anytime soon. "We're seeing the beginnings of a slide into an authoritarian government system," he told the German Press Agency ahead of his only Germany concert this Saturday (7th June) in Munich.
The outspoken singer, who backed the Democrats last year, performed at one of their conventions and is not backing down. "I have a political leader with whom I disagree completely, and we're implementing a political program I strongly oppose," he said.
But don't expect Legend to stay silent. "I will continue to raise my voice and get involved," he asserted. Although he's mostly focused on local and state politics, he's promised to speak out about national issues when the time comes.
With a contentious political climate and growing concerns about authoritarianism, Legend isn't the only one sounding the alarm. Fellow artists like Bruce Springsteen have denounced the Trump administration as "corrupt, incompetent and treasonous." [1]
John Legend's worries aren't just about Trump's administration, but about the broader impact of divisive politics. He's especially concerned about the effect of Kanye West's support for Trump and West's recent controversial actions. "I think we need to be careful," Legend warned. "It could happen here if we're not careful." [2]
Legend plans to perform at Munich's Olympiahalle on the 7th of June, where he'll celebrate the 20th anniversary of his album "Get Lifted." It's his only Germany concert this tour.
