United States and France issue advisory to their citizens in Metro Manila, urging them to steer clear of protest zones scheduled for September 21.

The Philippine National Police (PNA) has announced that more than 50,000 police personnel will be deployed nationwide on September 21, as numerous protests against allegations of corruption in flood control-related projects are planned in Metro Manila.

The demonstrations, which are expected to be attended by a broad coalition of students, church groups, civil society organizations, labor unions, and political coalitions, will take place at Rizal Park (Luneta) in Manila at 9 a.m. and the People Power Monument along EDSA, Quezon City at 2 p.m.

The US Embassy in Manila has issued an alert reminding its nationals to avoid demonstration areas across Metro Manila on September 21, due to the potential for violence. US citizens have been advised to exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings in Metro Manila on September 21, and to follow instructions from local authorities. The Embassy has also advised its nationals to avoid these demonstrations.

A similar demonstration alert has been issued by the French Embassy in Manila for French nationals in the Philippines on September 19.

The political coalitions involved in the demonstrations include various parliamentary groups, as numerous parliamentarians were implicated in the scandal. The chairpersons of both chambers of parliament temporarily stepped down for the investigation. However, specific coalition names are not detailed in the sources. The protests involve broad public participation against corruption linked to state-funded flood protection projects worth approximately 7.4 billion euros.

Nearly 1,000 police officers from the Manila Police District and 1,400 reserve force from the National Capital Region Police Office will be deployed across Manila. The PNA encourages peaceful protests and urges protesters to adhere to the rules and regulations set by the authorities.

As the demonstrations approach, it is essential for all individuals to exercise caution and follow instructions from local authorities to ensure safety and maintain order.
