United States Accused of Instigating Regime Change 'Incidents' by Venezuela Following US Military Integration on a Fishing Vessel

In recent developments, the United States has mobilized a significant military presence in the Caribbean, sparking concern and criticism from Latin American leaders. The mission, claimed to be an anti-narcotics operation by US officials, has seen the deployment of 4,000 troops, a nuclear-propelled submarine, eight warships, as well as fighter jets and other aircraft.

The heart of the controversy surrounds a tuna fishing vessel named 'Carmen Rosa,' which was halted in Venezuelan waters by the US Navy destroyer USS Jason Dunham on September 15, 2025. US officials claimed that Coast Guard personnel aboard the USS Jason Dunham boarded the fishing vessel following a tip that it was carrying drugs. However, no substances were found aboard. The incident has been strongly condemned by the Venezuelan government, with Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez stating that such actions endanger peace in the Caribbean region.

In response to these US moves, the Venezuelan government announced large-scale military exercises named 'Independencia 200.' Padrino congratulated the Venezuelan people for their participation in these exercises and announced that similar initiatives will continue weekly. The exercises involve artillery, air force, and naval units, and military officers explained combat tactics and conducted shooting exercises with multiple weapons during the training activities.

More than 300 barracks and military installations were opened for these training activities, with volunteers from the Bolivarian Militia participating. The Venezuelan government claims that the operation lacks strategic proportionality and is a direct provocation seeking an incident to justify a military escalation.

The US's moves have also been criticized for their impact on the region's peace. The nationwide drills build on ramped-up deployments across Venezuela's land and maritime borders. The US president has hinted at possible strikes inside Venezuelan territory, adding to the existing tensions.

Padrino added that the popular mobilization is a 'key component of the nation's defense strategy.' He also stated that any attack against Venezuela would be met by a 'proportional response' in defense of the country's sovereignty. The Venezuelan armed forces monitored the situation until the tuna fishing boat was released.

The incident adds to the ongoing strife in the Caribbean Sea, with the US's military deployment on an anti-narcotics mission causing unease among regional leaders. As the situation continues to unfold, the international community watches with bated breath, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the escalating tensions.
