United Nations Security Council sees another rejection of Gaza resolution proposed by the USA

The focus of the United Nations this week is the ongoing crisis in Gaza, as the Security Council held its 10,000th meeting in its 80-year history. The meeting, which took place amidst growing international pressure on Israel, was called to address the dire situation in Gaza, where a famine looms.

The UN, along with several countries, including France, have called for the Israeli government to lift all restrictions on the import of humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, no action was taken by the Security Council to lift restrictions on Gaza, as the resolution was vetoed by the USA.

The failed resolution rejected any attempt to bring about demographic or territorial changes in the Gaza Strip and demanded the release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups in the region. The resolution also called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The USA's veto was justified by the US representative, Morgan Ortagus, who called the draft resolution “unacceptable” and criticized it for not condemning Hamas adequately or recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense. The Trump administration continues to support Israel despite growing criticism of its military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The veto has intensified pressure on Israel ahead of the UN General Assembly's general debate, scheduled for Monday. Countries are likely to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and may even consider recognizing Palestine as a state at a conference on the two-state solution in New York. The conference, focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, is scheduled to take place in New York.

The USA, Israel's closest ally, has been a consistent supporter of Israel in the international community. However, the veto has raised concerns about the USA's commitment to the peace process in the region. As the international community grapples with the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the focus remains on finding a solution that ensures the safety and well-being of all those affected.
