United Manchester triumphs over Leeds United at home, with Rashford and Sancho rescuing a draw for Man Utd after being behind

Lightning-fast action at Old Trafford between age-old rivals culminated in a hard-earned 2-2 draw after a spirited comeback from Man United.

The game was a rollercoaster from the get-go, with halftime doing little to slow the pace. Leeds United took advantage of their opportunities to score early in both halves, 55 seconds into the match and again off a Raphael Varane own-goal four minutes into the second half.

Yet, United fought back valiantly. Marcus Rashford brought the Red Devils level just past the half-hour mark, and, not long after, Jadon Sancho off the bench equalized with only nine minutes remaining.

The hosts' midfield play was slack, with Fred in particular struggling to handle the relentless pressure from American duo Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams. United missed their absent anchor Casemiro and play-maker Eriksen, with their midfield being carved open frequently.

These two teams will face off again at Elland Road in just four days' time, for an unexpected back-to-back league clash.

Man United vs Leeds United final score: 2-2

Post-match analysis:

Missing Casemiro and Eriksen dearly

Man United's midfield struggled without the presence of Casemiro, with Marcel Sabitzer and Fred failing to control the game. Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie, on the other hand, were a constant threat in the midfield.

When Casemiro returns, this midfield will once again be a force. Sabitzer is a quality player, but Fred is below the required level at the moment. It wouldn't be surprising to see Scott McTominay return to the lineup if he recovers from injury before Casemiro.

Sizzling style of play, but with pitfalls

Leeds' playing style was as blistering as ever, much like it has been under Jesse Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa before him. Although they capitalized on their opportunities in front of goal, something they have struggled with this season, this high-tempo approach came with its own set of challenges.

Leeds were often left exposed at the back, and United could have scored five goals on another day. Luke Ayling in particular struggled to manage his defensive duties, being out of gas by the end of the game. The team's future manager might want to tone things down a bit in the final third to ensure survival.

What does Wout Weghorst bring to Man United?

With Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho in striking form, United have a solid attack. However, they are still missing a quality No. 9. Signed at the end of the January transfer window, Wout Weghorst has yet to prove his ability to fill that role.

He dropped too deep in the game, unable to provide the necessary hold-up play or create opportunities for his teammates. When he was subbed off, United's comeback began almost immediately. The jury is still out on Weghorst's ability to contribute to the team's success.
