United Arab Emirates Experiences Record-Breaking April Temperatures: Meteorological Office Report

A scorching hot April sweeps through UAE

It's been burning up in the UAE lately! The blistering heat of April 2025 has set records, topping the previous high of 42.2°C (108.7°F) recorded back in April 2017. According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), this isn't just a random occurrence—they've been tracking temperatures since 2003.

This heatwave has been causing quite a stir, with authorities advising residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor work during peak hours. Ahmed Habib, a meteorologist at the NCM, attributes this heatwave to a massive wave of sweltering air sweeping in from the desert.

On the scorching day of April 27, temperatures in Fujairah reached a whopping 46.6°C (115.9°F), just shy of the all-time high for April in the UAE. And it didn't stop there—early May saw Sweihan's thermometer hit 46.2°C.

The extreme contrast between the torrential rains that swept the UAE in April 2024 (the heaviest in 75 years) and the current heatwave highlights the volatile nature of the region's climate. With four deaths and Dubai being paralyzed for several days, it was quite a rainy tragedy. Scientists attribute the 2024 rains to global warming, indicating a clear link between climate change and the UAE's weather patterns.

The UAE isn't just relying on its oil reserves—it's also investing heavily in renewable energy. However, despite these efforts, the impacts of climate change are hard to ignore. In fact, studies show that the UAE's summer season has already extended by about 10 days compared to historical averages and could potentially lengthen to a staggering six months. Plus, the heat intensity is expected to reach a mind-boggling 48°C during the summer.

So, while you're basking in the sunshine, remember to stay safe and hydrated! The National Center of Meteorology forecasts dust-laden winds of up to 40kph mid-week, but temperatures may start to drop by Tuesday. Stay tuned for more updates!
