United Arab Emirates dismisses Sudan's assertions as groundless publicity strategies
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has called for an intensification of international efforts to support a civilian-led political process in Sudan, amidst ongoing allegations of its involvement in the country's civil conflict.
Multiple credible sources, including human rights groups, UN experts, and investigative press, have reported UAE support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group fighting against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The accusations include claims that the UAE supplied weapons, advanced military equipment including drones, and even Colombian mercenaries to the RSF.
However, the UAE categorically denies these allegations, calling them false, unfounded, and politically motivated. Abu Dhabi asserts that the claims are part of media stunts or manipulation by one of the warring parties (mainly the Sudanese army) to deflect blame and disrupt peace efforts.
The UAE points to the ruling by the International Court of Justice, which dismissed Sudan’s legal case against it for lack of jurisdiction, and to reports such as the UN Panel of Experts on Sudan that did not find evidence implicating the UAE. Abu Dhabi also rejects the legitimacy of the Sudanese authorities making these accusations, stating they do not represent the country’s legitimate government.
Despite these accusations, the UAE maintains it supports a civilian-led political process in Sudan and denies any support for military factions. It has reiterated its commitment to working alongside partners towards a comprehensive and sustainable solution that ends the war in Sudan and ensures a secure and stable future.
The Foreign Ministry stated that these unfounded claims aim to divert attention away from the Port Sudan Authority's direct responsibility for prolonging the civil war in Sudan. The UAE has not acknowledged hiring Colombian mercenaries to fight in Sudan, nor has it provided any legal or factual basis for its involvement in the civil conflict.
On May 5, The International Court of Justice dismissed Sudan's genocide case against the UAE, stating it lacked authority to rule on the matter. The UAE reiterated its denial of any involvement in supplying weaponry in Sudan, as well as its denial of any support for armed groups or factions.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the allegations as baseless and devoid of evidence, calling them "feeble media stunts". The UAE has expressed its intention to continue working alongside partners towards a comprehensive and sustainable solution that ends the war in Sudan and ensures a secure and stable future.
