Hear it Straight
In a shakeup that took place on the 8th of May, 2025, the 1st Infantry Division (1ID) has reshuffled the leadership of the 102nd Infantry Brigade (102Bde), an operating unit under its wing in Zamboanga Peninsula.
Stepping into the shoes of the former commander, Colonel Randolph Rojas, is none other than Major General Elmer Suderio, who has now been appointed as the Armed Forces of the Philippines' deputy chief of staff for operations.
At the helm, commanding the 1ID, is Major General Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., who emphasized the vital role strong leadership plays in striving for operational excellence during the Change of Command Ceremony.
"The transition here is more than just a handover. It's a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to service," Barroquillo noted during the ceremony on May 5, at the 102Bde headquarters.
Rojas, the new commander, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and honored the achievements of his predecessor. He assured that with the team of the 102nd Infantry Brigade, they will continue to protect their communities and execute their mission with integrity and dedication.
A proud Suderio, reflecting on his tenure, expressed faith in Rojas, stating, "I'm confident that Colonel Rojas will lead with distinction and continue our collective efforts for peace and development." He considered leading the 102Bde as one of the most beautiful chapters in his military career.
Besides the main players, Colonel Eddie Pilapil deserves a shout-out for his commendable role as the acting commander during the transition.
In a statement, the 1ID recognized the ceremony, quoting Rojas, "It's a profound honor to assume command of the 102nd Infantry Brigade. I thank Major General Suderio for his outstanding leadership."
Once the dust settled, plaques of appreciation were presented to both parties, honoring their service to the community.
