Union's Demand Causes Potential Activation of Pangl

Johannes Wutzlhofer Set as BFV Presidential Candidate, but Georg Pangl Aims for Comeback

So, it's been roughly a moon's cycle since we've got a contender for the BFV president's seat on June 17: Johannes Wutzlhofer, appointed unanimously by the football association's election committee.

Previously, Wutzlhofer's predecessor Georg Pangl, who called it quits last November (or was given the boot, according to him), mustered up 27 endorsements to summon an extraordinary general meeting - count that'd let him challenge as a candidate too.

BFV power tussle: Clubs may face double voting this year?Pangl opted against initiating the extraordinary general meeting though. Lately, he's left folks hanging on whether he'd attend the general meeting in Oberpullendorf due to personal obligations.

But here's where it gets interesting: Last Friday evening, there was a curveball. In a letter to the approximately 150 clubs of the BFV, Pangl expressed an interest in running for office once more.

He pens: "Word on the street is that many of you are on the fence about attending the BFV's general meeting in Oberpullendorf on June 17. 'Cause they say, 'Well, Wutzlhofer's the president, Pangl's not running.' To lay things bare, I hereby say that I'll be present at Oberpullendorf." If clubs believe that "the president from last year, Georg Pangl, with his Burgenland football know-how, still has a role to play, then I'll be on the ballot for presidential election".

How likely is Georg Pangl's return as BFV president?Pangl describes his resignation back in November as a "blunder" that was made "in a state of shock." He's remorseful for his actions and promises things will be handled differently in the future.

So far, so unpredictable. But exactly what does Pangl mean when he says "if the clubs want"? According to § 10, paragraph 6 of the BFV's statutes, "motions submitted to the general meeting can only be discussed and voted on if this is decided by two-thirds of the present, eligible voters".

Upcoming: BFV election on June 17 - but who's running?A few weeks back, Pangl could've secured his spot with a mere 10% of the clubs. Now, he needs around 66%.

Why's he making things harder for himself? Earlier in May, he declared he'd only return if there was a clear majority beyond the two-thirds.

Catching a hold of our website on Friday evening, Pangl at the pitch says: "Yeah, it's tougher now," but "I wanna know what goes down, no matter what".

The showdown's on June 17.

What if Georg Pangl decides to run for the BFV presidential election again, as hinted in his recent letter to the clubs? If the clubs indeed support Pangl's return, he might be able to gather the necessary two-thirds vote required by the BFV's statutes to stand as a candidate, thus leading to a double voting situation this year.
