Union boss Svensson preaches unity amidst competition

Bo Svensson, the helmsman of 1. FC Union Berlin, isn't offering a promise of fixed starting XI prior to his entrance into the Bundesliga. "We require more than the eleven gracing the field. Who's game-ready? Let's see who's in the fray. Everybody's impressing thus far," the 45-year-old exclaimed as the Friday faceoff (8:30 PM/DAZN) against FC St. Pauli approached.

Like his 1-1 stalemate at 1. FSV Mainz 05 last weekend, Svensson envisions fielding the most capable players to wrestle with the opposition's strengths. "We merely execute what we believe boosts our chances of victory," said Svensson, pointing out several factors in player selection, "it's a selection by selection basis, blending various aspects, such as form. We won't pin our focus on the opponent being a novice or a home game."

Svensson senses a tightly-contested clash. Despite FC Heidenheim's 2-0 triumph over the neophytes, he views Alexander Blessin's outfit as the stronger side unjustly thwarted: "They're disciplined. It's going to be a hair-breadth contest, where home advantage will play a crucial role."

Simultaneously, Svensson emphasizes unity and understanding among the squad. As in Mainz, dissatisfied players will abound on Friday: "But that's the professional game: personal dissatisfaction, yes, but also compassion for the team." New signings László Benes, who notched a goal, and Tim Skarke added a fresh impulsion to Mainz's ranks.

Against Hamburg, their Bundesliga rival's recent acquisition Woo-yeong Jeong may also feature. "He brings a unique edge to the table. He navigates between the lines and shines in the crucial pass," said Svensson, who can also rely on the ever-present Kevin Vogt, who wrestled an injury in Mainz. The defensive cornerstone has participated in each training session: "We anticipate his inclusion in the proceedings."

Football embeds Svensson's undivided attention as he gears up for his Bundestag bow. He plans to counter the opposition's strengths with his most proficient players, just as he did in the 1-1 tie at 1. FSV Mainz 05.
