Union Leadership Uprising

Iron Ones' Club Leadership Expands, Zingler to Stay as President for Another Four Years

Starting July 1, the presidium of 1. FC Union Berlin will have seven members, following the addition of communications chief Christian Arbeit, women's football business manager Jennifer Zietz, and events business manager Katharina Kienemann. Meanwhile, club president Dirk Zingler will continue in his role for another four years, as announced by the supervisory board chairman Thomas Koch.

"Dirk Zingler is one of the best entrepreneurs I have had the pleasure of meeting, and his passion for our club forms a strong foundation for our success," Koch stated. Zingler himself expressed his excitement about the critical period ahead, emphasizing the need for stadium expansion and the expansion of the professional center to ensure the club's growth over the next few decades.

Zingler, who has led Union Berlin since 2004, views the club's current facilities as a competitive disadvantage. He cited the small stadium and outdated infrastructure as areas requiring improvement. Despite the club's challenging season that saw them narrowly avoid relegation, Zingler considered their survival in the Bundesliga an impressive feat given their circumstances.

In terms of future plans, the club is set to begin constructing new training facilities for both the men's and women's professional teams, followed by focus on stadium development. Discussions regarding these plans are ongoing between Union, relevant authorities, and the city. However, the specific role of Zingler in these plans remains unclear.

Sources suggest that Zingler has also been involved in discussions regarding financial support for women's teams, potentially signaling broader investment strategies. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is advisable to check the official club announcements or contact 1. FC Union Berlin directly.

"The presidium of 1. FC Union Berlin has expanded to seven members, with the addition of Jennifer Zietz, who oversees the women's football business, among others. Dirk Zingler, the president of the club, will continue in his role for another four years and is focused on improving the club's facilities, particularly the stadium and training grounds, and potentially investing more in women's teams."
