Union-friendly atmosphere left in Reichinnek's sphere, suggesting potential collaboration.

Heidi Reichinnek, head of the Left group in the Bundestag, has expressed openness to further collaboration with the Union, specifically the CDU and CSU, to prevent the AfD from forming a government in Saxony-Anhalt.

In conversations with the editorial network Germany (RND), Reichinnek stated, "On the day of the chancellor's election, we sat in a room with the CDU, and no one burst into flames. We have little in common with the Union, and that's a good thing. But of course, we remain in conversation with all democrats to achieve something for the people."

The Fire's Burning: Left vs. AfD

Reichinnek hinted at the possibility of tolerating a CDU state government in her home state to keep the AfD out of power post-2026 elections. She emphatically declared, "I am personally ready for almost anything before my home is thrown to the AfD."

Criticizing the Union for its incompatibility resolution regarding cooperation with left-wing extremists, Reichinnek urged the CDU to revoke the resolution, stating, "We want to make democracy more socially just, the AfD wants to abolish it. It should be easy to decide who to work with or not."

United We Stand: Red-Red-Green Coalition

Reichinnek also advocated for a joint strategy between the Left, Greens, and SPD to facilitate red-red-green coalition options. She emphasized the need for progressive majorities and cooperation among the left spectrum parties to garner broader societal support.

Current polls show the Left surpassing the Greens for the first time; however, Reichinnek appraised this development cautiously, stressing the need for greater cooperative efforts rather than vote-shifting amongst parties.

SPD under the Microscope

Reichinnek criticized the Social Democrats for their lack of commitment to their traditional platforms in the black-red coalition agreement and fears that the SPD may lose its identity under a potential BlackRock Chancellor Merz. She expressed hope that the SPD would reconsider its stance in the coming years.

*Note: The AfD's extreme right-wing ideology poses a threat to democratic values and social justice in Saxony-Anhalt. A red-red-green coalition, if successful, could prevent the AfD from gaining power, ensuring political stability and protecting democratic principles. However, it might face challenges due to the differing ideologies among the parties and the potential for increased political polarization.
