Festival Tent Too Small: Union Postpones Members' Assembly - Union Berlin postpones landmark member event due to overwhelming fan demand
Union Berlin has delayed its members’ assembly after receiving far more registrations than expected. The main event, originally set for next Tuesday, will now take place after the season ends in May. Over 6,000 fans signed up, but the venue can only hold 4,000 people.
The club planned to hold the assembly alongside its 60th-anniversary celebration on January 20. However, with 71,328 members as of December 31, 2025, demand quickly outgrew the festival tent’s 4,000-person limit. Only the first 4,000 registrants will be admitted, leaving many without a spot.
To include more supporters, the main event has been moved to May 16, 2026, likely at the An der Alten Försterei stadium. This venue can host up to 20,000 members, far exceeding the original capacity. The club must finalise the new date by June 30. For those unable to enter, two large video screens will broadcast the event outside. Food stalls serving local specialties will also be available. Meanwhile, the anniversary gala on January 20 will proceed as planned, featuring players from the fan-voted 'Team of the Last 60 Years'.
The rescheduled main event will allow far more members to attend than the original venue permitted. With a stadium capacity of 20,000, the club aims to accommodate as many supporters as possible. The main event will now follow the final Bundesliga matchday of the season.
