Union Begins with Baumgart's Handwriting Script

As the countdown to the new Bundesliga season begins, 1.FC Union Berlin's coach Steffen Baumgart is preparing to blend tradition and innovation in his team's tactical approach. The expected formation for the upcoming campaign is anticipated to be a 4-2-3-1 system, a hallmark of Baumgart's managerial profile.

After experiencing success with a three-man defense in previous seasons, Baumgart is reportedly set to return to the 4-2-3-1 formation. This transition aims to combine solid defensive organization with offensive flexibility, a hallmark of Baumgart’s style during his tenure at Union Berlin.

Defensively, the lineup is still shaping up, with Union Berlin considering new signings. Among the potential new faces are a French left-back and defenders such as Louis Oppie, reflecting a possible reshuffle and strengthening of the backline in line with Baumgart’s tactical preferences.

The final squad and exact roles may still depend on transfer market developments over the summer. However, key players such as Christopher Trimmel and Rani Khedira are ready for the new season. Young talents like Tom Rothe and Aljoscha Kemlein, both 20-year-olds, have already gained experience, while new signings such as Oluwaseun Ogbemudia, Andrik Markgraf, Yannic Stein, David Preu, Livan Burcu, and Ilyas Ansah are set to bolster the team.

Union has also signed Oliver Burke from Werder Bremen as a hopeful replacement for the departed top scorer Benedict Hollerbach, who has moved to Mainz 05.

Before the new season, the players of 1.FC Union Berlin must pass obligatory fitness tests, which will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The team will travel to Austria for matches against LASK Linz and Rapid Wien before a training camp in Herzogenaurach from July 23 to August 1.

The first test match is against Brandenburger SC Süd 05 on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., and the competitive start will be the DFB-Pokal against FC Gütersloh on August 15. Union will host VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga opener on August 23/24.

As Urs Fischer's influence gradually diminishes, making way for tactical changes by Steffen Baumgart, the fans of 1.FC Union Berlin are eager for the new Bundesliga season. A back four formation could be a new trademark for 1.FC Union Berlin, as they aim to build on their fighting spirit and stability while incorporating innovative tactics under their new coach.

In the upcoming season, Steffen Baumgart plans to transition from a three-man defense to a 4-2-3-1 formation, emphasizing a solid defensive organization and offensive flexibility, as seen in his previous tenure at Union Berlin.

The returning to a 4-2-3-1 system aims to incorporate new signings such as Louis Oppie, Oliver Burke, and others, reflecting a possible reshuffle and strengthening of the backline in line with Baumgart’s tactical preferences.
