Down for Some Union: Reichinnek Keeps Door Open for Collaboration with CDU and CSU

Union and Reichinnek maintain openness for collaboration

Chairwoman of the Left faction in Germany's Bundestag, Heidi Reichinnek, shows a keen interest in working with the Union. In a candid chat with the editorial network Germany (RND), Reichinnek expressed her willingness to keep dialogues open with CDU and CSU, emphasizing that they manage to coexist peacefully, despite their ideological disparities.

Reichinnek offered her thoughts on tolerating a CDU state government in Saxony-Anhalt, a move aimed at preventing an AfD government post-2026 state election. When asked about her stance, Reichinnek said, "I'm all for it before my hometown is thrown to the wolves, the AfD." She urges the Union to revoke its incompatibility resolution regarding left-wing parties to facilitate a broader democratic dialogue.

"Think of us as a democratic party working towards a socially just democracy, whereas the AfD wants to eradicate it," Reichinnek said, emphasizing the stark differences between her party and the far-right AfD. She further posed a question, "It's just common sense to decide which side to collaborate with."

On the topic of red-red-green coalitions, Reichinnek called for a joint strategy among Die Linke, Greens, and SPD to achieve progressive majorities in the next four years. Regretting the lost votes exchanged between her party and the Greens, she voiced her concern over the lack of substantial democratic values in the black-red coalition agreement. Expressing hope for the SPD's future, Reichinnek voiced her doubts about the party's survival under a BlackRock Chancellor Merz.
