Cardinal Becciu, found guilty, won't take part in the papal election - Uninvolved Cardinal Becciu Excludes Himself from the Papal Election

In a surprising turn of events, disgraced cardinal Angelo Becciu won't be participating in the upcoming conclave. Why, you ask? Well, let's dive in, baby!

Back in the year 2023, the shrewd ol' Becciu got hit with a hefty 5.5-year sentence for his shady dealings in the Vatican's purchase of a ritzy crib in London. He than tossed a temper tantrum and appealed that verdict, but I guess the big guy upstairs didn't take kindly to his shenanigans.

Becciu, who used to be the Sheik of the desert for the recently deceased Pope Francis, was once a hot favorite to take the pope's seat. His fall from grace began when he was booted out of his position in September 2020, thanks to a financial scandal. Can you believe that? The Vatican, the holiest of holies, got hit with some dirty laundry!

Despite his initial squawking about wanting to give the conclave a crack, the Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, waved around a couple of letters signed by the Argentine pontiff himself, telling Becciu to kiss his chances goodbye.

Now, you ask, just who is this Pietro fella? Well, he's the right-hand man to the almighty Pope Francis. He's got a fancy title, too - the Cardinal Secretary of State. So, when he shows up with a couple of letters signed by the Pope himself, you better believe Becciu didn't kick up a fuss.

These 135 eligible cardinals are gonna gather in the Sistine Chapel on May 7, 2025, to elect the new pope. But don't ask me about the dirty details of this London property deal or the financial reforms, because frankly, I could give a rat's ASS about it.

Fun Fact: The Vatican court trials are known as the "Trial of the Century." So, when they said the "Century," they weren't jokin' around!

  • Cardinal Becciu, who was once a favored contender for the pope's seat, has been excluded from participating in the upcoming conclave due to his involvement in the embezzlement case related to the Vatican's purchase of a property in London.
  • The exclusion of Becciu, who previously served as the Sheik of the desert for Pope Francis, follows his 2023 conviction and sentencing of 5.5 years for his shady dealings within the Vatican.
  • Despite initially expressing interest in taking part in the conclave, Becciu was officially prohibited from doing so by the Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, who presented him with letters signed by Pope Francis himself.
  • Despite the ongoing scandal and the importance of the conclave, there appears to be little concern within the Vatican regarding the London property deal and financial reforms, indicating a potential focus on more pressing matters.
