The University Town of Marburg is set to host the annual "Marburger Day of Integration through Sports" (MATIS) on Saturday, September 20. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event, themed "10 Years MATIS, 10 Years Sports Against Racism and For Diversity".

The sports event, taking place at the Marburg Georg-Gaßmann Stadium from 9 am to 4:30 pm, will feature both football and volleyball tournaments. Each team participating in the tournaments must have at least two nationalities represented, reflecting the event's commitment to promoting intercultural exchange.

Mayor Dr. Thomas Spies emphasized that sports connect people across borders and MATIS is a strong signal against racism and for diversity. Fairness awards will be given out during the MATIS event to emphasize the importance of respectful interaction.

Volleyball teams can still register for the MATIS tournament, with a registration fee of 35 euros. The event is open to the public, ensuring a diverse and inclusive atmosphere. During the MATIS volleyball tournament, teams will receive water, soft drinks, sandwiches, and fruit to keep their energy levels high.

In the evening, from 8 pm, the MATIS Cultural Night will continue at the St. Martin-Haus, Waidmannsweg 11. The night will begin with live music from African sounds, followed by a traditional and modern African fashion show. Admission to the Cultural Night is free, making it an accessible event for all.
