Unidentified voice message sent by Daniel Küblböck
The three-part ARD documentary series, titled "Die Küblböck-Story – Eure Lana Kaiser," is set to air in August 2025, providing new insights into the mysterious disappearance of German pop and jazz singer Daniel Küblböck, who identified as Lana Kaiser.
Lana Kaiser, born in Eggenfelden, Bavaria, gained fame as a contestant on the first season of the RTL casting show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" in 2003, finishing in third place. However, her life took a dramatic turn in 2018 when she went missing from a cruise ship off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
The documentary features previously unheard audio, believed to be the last voice message sent by Lana Kaiser on September 9, 2018, the day she disappeared. In this message, she expressed her desire to leave the ship and fly to New York, hinting at her troubled state at the time.
The series also includes interviews with Lana Kaiser's friends, family, and companions, as well as eyewitness accounts from fellow passengers and video footage. These materials offer a detailed perspective on Lana Kaiser's psychological and emotional state in the days leading up to her disappearance.
Authorities initially suspected suicide as the cause of Lana Kaiser's death, and CCTV footage from the cruise ship showed a person jumping overboard at the time she disappeared, leading them to believe it was her. The Canadian coast guard called off the search for Lana Kaiser the day after her disappearance due to the low chances of survival in the cold North Atlantic.
Lana Kaiser was officially declared dead in 2021. The documentary is set to air on ARD Mediathek from August 26, offering viewers a closer look at her life just before her disappearance.
The documentary also sheds light on Lana Kaiser's transgender identity, a topic that was not widely discussed at the time of her disappearance. Interviews with drag queen Olivia Jones and old TV footage will be shown, providing a more comprehensive understanding of Lana Kaiser's life and struggles.
This documentary adds important context to the case, humanizing Lana Kaiser's struggles and offering viewers a closer look at her life just before her disappearance. It is scheduled to air on the first channel on August 27, the same day as Lana Kaiser's birthdate.
