Mystery Unsolved: The Murder of Karin Rieck in Berlin, 1992
Twenty-five years have passed since the brutal murder of Karin Rieck, the operator of the bar "Karin's Atelier" in Katharinenstraße 1, Halensee. Despite extensive investigations, the perpetrator and motive behind her death remain unknown.
On the chilly evening of 27 October 1992, Karin Rieck was found dead in Berner Straße, Lichterfelde, with a gunshot wound to the head. Her murder sent shockwaves through the community, and the case has remained one of the most intriguing unsolved mysteries in Berlin's criminal history.
Investigators from the 5th Homicide Commission of the State Criminal Police Office Berlin have been working tirelessly to crack the case. Blood was secured on a glass shard at the crime scene in Passauer Straße, and a DNA profile was established and stored in the DNA database.
The murder weapon, however, has not been found. It is believed to have been used in two previous burglaries: one at Kurfürstendamm 22 in Charlottenburg on 7-8 September 1991 and another at Passauer Straße 35 in Schöneberg on 3 March 1992.
