Angler hurls footwear at chairperson of ACC during public hearing in Bogura, expressing frustration over delayed opportunity to speak

Unidentified fish farmer hurls footwear at the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission during a public hearing in Bogura, during a dispute over delayed speaking opportunities.

In an unprecedented incident, a fish farmer named Sakawat Hossain from Sonatala upazila in Bogura threw his shoe at Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen during a public hearing at the Shaheed Titu Auditorium.

The incident occurred at around 10:45am on the day of the public hearing. The cause of Hossain's outburst was his frustration over delayed action on some issue, which he wanted to address during the hearing. However, his inability to speak at the public hearing built up his anger, leading him to throw his shoe at the ACC chairman.

Hossain was immediately removed from the venue after the incident, and he was escorted out of the hall while wearing his black shoes. After being removed, he was later allowed to re-enter and was told that his complaint would be heard on stage, but he was never called up.

The ACC chairman, Mohammad Abdul Momen, evaded the topic when journalists questioned him about the shoe-throwing incident. Despite this, the ACC chairman announced that the graft body would open investigations into alleged corruption in a four-lane road project and a river excavation project.

Abul Kalam Azad, a Bogura correspondent for Ekushey Television, confirmed the shoe-throwing incident at the public hearing. Hossain stated that he threw the shoe to get attention and an opportunity to speak, but his efforts were unsuccessful.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Hossain has taken action to seek justice. He has already filed complaints with various offices in Dhaka and even with the interim government, but he has yet to receive justice.

On May 17, 2015, Hossain's fish farm was seized by the brother-in-law of a local member of parliament. The public hearing organized by the ACC was aimed at addressing complaints of bribery, corruption, and harassment. A total of 97 complaints were submitted against 32 departments, and 57 were heard during the public hearing.

Hossain stated that he is content that he could throw a shoe, even if it brings punishment. He hopes that this incident will bring attention to his plight and will lead to a resolution of his grievances. The ACC chairman ordered the arrest of a local official from Padma Insurance and two individuals claiming to be officials of a fake university for their failure to appear.

The exact nature of Hossain's complaint against the local member of parliament is not clear from the available information. However, the incident has caused a stir in the political and public spheres, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days.

Politics dominated general news headlines, with the unexpected shoe-throwing incident at a public hearing grabbing everyone's attention. In crime and justice scenes, a fish farmer named Sakawat Hossain took matters into his own hands, throwing his shoe at Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen.
