Unfortunate Loss of Life and Missing People in Flood-Stricken Himachal Pradesh Prompts Priyanka Gandhi to Demand Emergency Government Safety Measures

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra couldn't help but feel a deep sense of despair as she became aware of the devastation that heavy rains have caused in Himachal Pradesh. She took to her platform to extend her condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and are anxiously awaiting the safe return of their missing relatives. She also prayed for the safety of those still marooned due to landslides and flash floods.

"The torment inflicted by nature on the people of Himachal Pradesh is heart-wrenching. The damage to homes and lives is immense. My deepest sympathies go out to the families who have suffered loss, and I hope the missing individuals are swiftly found. Emergency relief and rescue efforts are underway, but I implore the government to act urgently, heeding the warnings from the local weather department and prioritizing the safety of their citizens," Priyanka Gandhi wrote.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi expressed his deep sorrow for the loss of lives and property due to the unrelenting rainfall in various regions of Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu confirmed that at least three people have perished, with a few more still unaccounted for following a massive cloudburst that resulted in flash floods and property destruction in Himachal Pradesh.

In an interview with ANI, Sukhu reported that three individuals had lost their lives, and at least five more were unaccounted for in Kullu.

"As of now, we are aware of three casualties caused by the monsoon rains and floods. Three people are also listed as missing in the Kullu district. Emergency operations are ongoing to locate the missing individuals and aid those affected," he disclosed.

Sukhu also mentioned that a catastrophic flood event occurred in Dharamshala, a region of Kangra, and parts of the Himalayan range, after a cloudburst.

"Much of the devastation in our geography, where the Himalayas rise steeply, has been due to the cloudburst. In total, three deaths and five missing individuals have been confirmed, with one person initially thought to be missing but later found alive in the forest. He had sought refuge near the roadside," the Chief Minister explained.

A major incident was reported in Kullu's Sainj sub-tehsil, where a cloudburst near Jeeva Nalla swept away four homes on Wednesday afternoon. The incident transpired downstream of the Jiwa Trench Weir in Majhan Nallah, subsequently leading to an increase in the water level of the Sainj River.

According to a report issued by the Himachal Pradesh State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at 5:10 PM, two to three individuals were feared dead or missing after being swept away into the Jeeva Nalla. The District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Kullu, acknowledged the cloudburst and recorded increased river levels as a result.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted isolated heavy rainfall across Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and West Uttar Pradesh between June 25 and July 1.
