Social Services Office Remains Unified amidst Unsettled Affairs and Financial Losses

Unfinished business has resulted in significant financial losses at the Social Services Office, however, there appears to be no discord or division within the office.

The city of Bremen is facing heated debates following the release of a 56-page report commissioned by the Senator for Social Affairs. The report, conducted by external auditors "con_sens - Consulting for Management and Social Development GmbH," over a year, has highlighted several issues within the Bremen Office for Social Services.

The study has estimated the damages incurred by the city to be around 2 million euros, due to neglected files. It has also pointed out a lack of controlling in the area of finances within the office, ambiguous distribution of tasks, and poor communication between senatorial authorities.

The report further suggests that the affected specialist department of Economic Youth Welfare should be centralized to improve flexibility and efficiency. However, this recommendation has raised eyebrows among some affected citizens and politicians, as it may lead to the separation of the youth and social departments.

The expert group "Bündnis für Bildung" has recommended against separating the youth and social departments. The coalition parties have rejected the criticism levied against the office, citing objective staff shortage, individual task perception of certain persons, and structural defects as the causes of the economic damage.

The CDU, on the other hand, has advocated for the separation of the social and youth departments. The opposition, however, has spoken of leadership failure in the office.

The conditions in the Bremen Office for Social Services have sparked intense debates, with the study set to be discussed in the Social Committee next Wednesday. The internal audit department has also suggested examining the separation of the social and youth departments in the long run.

The study, which cost the city around 97,000 euros plus VAT, has shone a light on the need for improvement within the Bremen Office for Social Services. The Office for Social Services, including the youth department, offers support under one roof, making the authority flexible and efficient for citizens. However, the report's findings have raised questions about the balance between flexibility and efficiency, and the potential impact of any changes on the citizens they serve.
