Unfiltered Talk in Paris - Zverev Reflects on Self

Alexander Zverev progressed effortlessly in the French Open tournament, sailing past Learner Tien in straight sets in their first-round encounter. The world No. 3 German tennis player appeared in top form, displaying impressive court discipline on clay after a somewhat lackluster season so far.

Tien, who had previously defeated Zverev in Acapulco earlier this year, was not a benchmark for the German this time around. Zverev, the defending finalist, eased into the tournament and secured his first match point after just 1 hour and 53 minutes.

Next up for Zverev is Dutch player Jesper de Jong, who clinched a five-set victory over Francesco Passaro. "It was a good start to the tournament," said Zverev in a post-match interview. "I hope it continues like this and that we have two nice weeks."

Despite some health concerns that surfaced during the Hamburg Open, where Zverev complained of nausea and fever after losing in the quarterfinals to Alexandre Müller, he gave no indication of being unwell during the match. "I feel okay," Zverev affirmed.

Zverev demonstrated a powerful forehand in his match against Tien, saving energy for potential later rounds. His serve proved particularly effective, with a first-serve win percentage of 90%. Tennis legend Boris Becker commented on Eurosport, praising Zverev's performance and expressing hope that it continues throughout the tournament.

Last year, Zverev reached the final at Roland Garros, falling to defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in an thrilling five-set match. In the 2025 tournament, he could face Alcaraz again, potentially in the final, or even earlier in the quarterfinals against Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, seeded to potentially meet Zverev in the quarterfinals, has already secured his place in the second round with a win against Mackenzie McDonald.

Only three of the nine German players who started the tournament have advanced to the second round, alongside Zverev, Eva Lys, and Daniel Altmaier. Maximilian Marterer was eliminated, losing to Australian Adam Walton in five sets. The second-round matches for Zverev, Lys, and Altmaier are scheduled for May 29, 2025.

Tien, who had an unexpected victory over Zverev in Acapulco earlier this year, did not pose a challenge in this match. Zverev, the tennis player, showcased his skills in sports, specifically tennis, as he eased into the tournament with a dominant performance.
