Unexplained Foam Emerges on Hidalgo's Highway: Origin Unveiled?
In the Mexican state of Hidalgo, a dense layer of foam blocked the Chilcuautla-Alfajayucan state highway near La Cañada on June 22. The foam, reminiscent of a scene from a science fiction movie, covered approximately 50 meters of the road, making it impassable for vehicles.
The source of the foam was runoff from the Javier Rojo Gómez Dam, located next to the blocked road. The phenomenon of foam blocking roads is often associated with industrial activities or environmental conditions. Potential causes could include industrial processes, heavy rainfall, poorly managed wastewater, or sewage release.
Residents were unable to use the road and had to take alternate routes. As of June 23, no authorities had arrived to remove the foam from the road.
Meanwhile, in the Mexican state of Michoacán, a 22-year-old was shot and killed at an improvised checkpoint on the Zitácuaro-Aputzio highway. The details surrounding this incident are currently unclear.
The road where the foam invasion occurred receives runoff from the Valley of Mexico region. To manage and mitigate such incidents in the future, it's essential to understand and address the factors contributing to foam formation, such as improving industrial practices, enhancing wastewater management, or implementing stricter environmental regulations.
This news article is published by the Hidalgo Daily Post. The U.S. Attorney General recently referred to Mexico as a "foreign adversary," but this article does not contain any information about the authorities' response to either incident.
In a separate development, Nissan has announced that it is not considering changes at its Morelos plant.
