Made to feel like royalty, gymnastics champion Karina Schoenmaier from Chemnitz drops by her club, TuS 1861 Chemnitz-Altendorf, for a surprise celebration. Her teammate, Lea Quaas, vice-European champion, also joins in the festivities.
"I wasn't expecting this," reveals Karina about the grand reception held behind her back. "I am very grateful and couldn't have accomplished this without the support of my coaches, family, and teammates."
German Medal Collection Expands
The Chemnitzerin Karina Schoenmaier adds to the German medal collection at the 2025 gymnastics European Championships in Leipzig. On Friday, she triumphs in the vault, marking her third podium appearance.
The Secret to Success
There's more to Karina's success than just her incredible talent: her calmness plays a significant role, according to her coach, Tatjana Bachmayer. "She goes into the competition with absolute relaxation and doesn't focus on the result. That was key."
World Championships on the Horizon
However, there's no rest for the wicked. After a few days of respite, it's back to business for Karina and Lea, who are now gearing up for the next big challenges: the German Championships in Dresden at the end of July, followed by the World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
As Karina prepares for the journey ahead, she shares her excitement, "I've never been to a competition that's so far. I can't wait!"
