Unenthusiastic about donning Darth Vader's cosplay in Destiny 2, user expresses concern, intensified by the reveal of a Star Wars-themed expansion.

Bungie apparently finds motivation in incorporating lightsabers within Destiny, and it seems I'll have to endure this development.

Unenthusiastic about donning Darth Vader's cosplay in Destiny 2, user expresses concern, intensified by the reveal of a Star Wars-themed expansion.

Ain't no way I'm a fan of mashing up two different universes, 'bout as much as I dig fusion cuisine. What's the point in smushing together two great things, just because you can? Well, here we are, talkin' 'bout Destiny 2, and everyone's chatterin' 'bout Star Wars.

I mean, Vanguard has already dabbled in Star Wars territory, peddlin' Stormtrooper-themed armor skins, and I could almost stomach that stupid Empire platoon parading around Guardian Tower. But the Star Wars stuff? Looks more like 1:1 copies, man, straight outta Jabba's Palace. And it ain't just skin deep anymore, Bungie dropping a bombshell, announcing the next expansion, Renegades, is Star Wars-themed.

I gotta admit, I've been a Destiny fanboy for years, through thick and thin, love for the game sometimes borderlin' on obsession. But I gotta ask, is it really respectful to their own creation to dump a buncha Star Wars crap in the mix?

At first, I could think, naah, maybe it's just some new armor skins, but now, lightsabers? Speakers? Planet lookin' like Tatooine? And yeah, it's not set in the actual Star Wars universe, but let's face it, it sure as hell feels like it.

For a long time now, I've been tryin' to convince myself that I'll stick around for the last day, Destiny servers go dark. But if this is the price we gotta pay to keep the lights on at Bungie, man, I'm gonna need a better reason than half a dozen Sith Lords prancin' around in my raid group.

I know, I know, it's just a game. But for a universe that's been etched in my mind for over a decade, this feels like a cheap shot. They've built something amazing, from the iconic imagery like The Traveller hovering over Earth, to the Guardians, brainless zombies that the other races straight-up fear. And now what, we're just gonna drown that in a bucket of Star Wars goop?

This feels disrespectful, even impossible to ignore. Plenty of folks at Bungie must have serious reservations about selling their precious universe to the highest bidders. But I guess when the money men crunch the numbers, they figure it don't matter if Destiny loses some fans, as long as they grab more Worthy Jawas with Star Wars dangling in front of 'em.

Look, I get it. I might not be a Star Wars nutjob, but lightsabers? They're fuckin' cool. If it's what it takes to keep Destiny alive, I'll probably tough it out. But don't expect me to strap on Han Solo's pants, that's a line I ain't crossin'!
