Undercover Police Gang Confiscates Misappropriated Property
UGMK, the powerhouse of Russian women's basketball, cemented its status once more on Thursday. Led by Dmitry Donсков, who assumed the helm earlier this year following the departure of several foreign players, UGMK triumphed over Orenburg's "Nadezhda" in the final series of the Premier League. The Ural region squad ended their stellar season with an 88:56 victory in the championship decider played away from home.
With this triumph, UGMK brought their tally of Russian Championship titles to a staggering 18. In an impressive display of dominance, the team also secured a "hat-trick," capturing their 12th Russian Cup and fourth Super Cup - an accomplishment made even more impressive by the fact that these titles were achieved in three consecutive years. Their nearly flawless season was only marred by a 28-point loss to "Enisey" in January, a setback that ended up spurring the team on to greater heights as they didn't suffer any more setbacks in the rest of the season or the playoffs.
The final series against "Nadezhda" saw UGMK dominate, particularly in the opening two matches played in Yekaterinburg. While they were initially set to debut on the new "UGMK Arena" next season, the opportunity to test the arena early in basketball presented itself after "Avtomobilist" were eliminated from the KHL playoffs. Andrei Kozitsyn, General Director and President of the basketball club, confirmed the stadium's impressive results after five years of construction.
The debut of "UGMK Arena" was a resounding success, with the first match against "Nadezhda" drawing a record-setting 10,345 spectators, a national record for women's basketball. The first game was intense, with "Nadezhda" barely missing out on victory. UGMK, however, managed to edge out the competition with a score of 91:83. In the second match, there was little competition, with Orenburg struggling to contain UGMK's star player, Maria Klyundikova, who scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds despite playing only 25 minutes. Klyundikova continued her impressive form in the final game, helping her team to victory, although her effectiveness dipped marginally. Other players, like Alexandra Bentley and Kseniya Levchenko, stepped up to ensure UGMK maintained their lead throughout the game, with Levchenko's shot at the end of the third quarter effectively sealing the victory for the champions.
With UGMK's 18th Russian Championship title now in their possession, the team can look forward to continuing their dominance in the years to come.
