The search for answers began on a Friday as the Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation. They suspect the teen of violating the ban on the "Islamic State" (IS) in the Federal Republic of Germany and using prohibited symbols publicly. He was charged due to his activities on TikTok, where he reportedly shared content with IS references.
According to intelligence sources, the suspect published two videos and a post with references to the terrorist organization on his TikTok profile. He also uploaded a still image displaying the oath of allegiance to the current IS caliph.
But wait, there's more: during the probe, authorities discovered additional social media outlets belonging to the suspect, on which he allegedly posted Islamist content.

Last year, a 15-year-old was imprisoned for four years in a juvenile detention center in Cologne for collaborating with an accomplice to execute an Islamist-motivated attack on a Christmas market in Leverkusen. The two teenagers conspired to acquire a truck to ram into the festival-goers. The older accomplice also received a four-year prison sentence for conspiring to commit murder.
The self-radicalization of young people through social media has concerned security agencies for quite some time.
