Under-14 Tennis Team from Nur-Sultan Secures Historic Victory in Cup Tournament
In a historic first for Kazakhstan, the Nur-Sultan team has clinched the title of the Kazakhstan Cup in tennis among juniors under 14 years old. The tournament, sponsored by Kazzinc and Bank RBK with TASSAY as the official partner, took place under adverse weather conditions, with all participants understanding the challenges posed by the elements.
The final match of the Cup featured the teams of Nur-Sultan-1 and Almaty-1. The Nur-Sultan team secured victory with a comeback in the final stages. Arujan Nuranbay brought the first point to the Nur-Sultan team with a win over Yana Shstod. However, the Almaty team responded strongly, with Sofia Isakova and Rodion Lukashov putting them ahead.
The momentum shifted when Olzhas Esenaly restored balance in the match with a win over Arseniy Trebuhin. The capital team then went on to win the remaining two doubles matches, securing overall victory.
The team from the Aktobe region, consisting of Temugin Iskandirov, Roman Razdolsky, Mansur Kakambetov, Mikhail Popadyko, Eva Korysheva, Aruzhan Dandaeva, Maria Derzovskaya, Zinura Zhunusova, and captains Pavel Tsoy and Azizhon Turgunov, fought valiantly and became the bronze medalists. They received a grant of 1,000,000 tenge for their third-place finish.
In a show of appreciation, Ekaterina Danilenko, the tournament director, expressed gratitude for the Ust-Kamenogorsk branch of the FTC and everyone involved in organizing the Kazakhstan Cup among players under 14. The Nur-Sultan-1 team received a grant of 3,000,000 tenge for their first-place finish, while the Almaty-1 team, consisting of Yana Shtoda, Sofia Isakova, Eveline Balaganskaya, Erkejan Zhanaeva, Rodion Lukashov, Arseniy Trebuhin, Mikhail Mishchenko, Anatoly Tsybulko, and captains Ilya Pavlenko/Andrey Khlébnikov, became the silver medalists, receiving a grant of 2,000,000 tenge.
Looking forward, this victory marks a significant milestone for Kazakhstan tennis, as for the first time in history, three Kazakhs will play in the semifinals of the home Challenger. The juniors of Nur-Sultan have set a strong precedent for future generations of Kazakhstani tennis players.
