Uncovering the Unusual Web Properties Transferred by Alex Jones to The Onion
In a surprising turn of events, The Onion, the renowned satirical news outlet, has purchased Infowars from controversial media personality Alex Jones. However, the sale is not without controversy as a legal dispute has arisen, with Jones attempting to delay the sale through various legal maneuvers.
Jones, known for his far-right conspiracy theories, has called the auction "rigged," according to the Associated Press. In response, a different company affiliated with Jones, First United American Companies, has asked a federal court to disqualify The Onion from purchasing Infowars.
The sale includes a variety of domains owned by Infowars, such as infowars.net, shopinfowars.biz, and infowarspets.com. Interestingly, Jones took out the website joeroganexposed.com, which is now part of the sale to The Onion, pending approval from the bankruptcy court. It's unclear why Jones bought joeroganexposed.com or what he intended to "expose" about Joe Rogan.
Other domains purchased by Infowars seem like unrealized business ideas, such as infowarscrypto.com, infowarsbunker.com, infowarsbabes.com, infowarssocial.com. Some domains, however, were acquired with a negative context, like goblinlove.com, goblinfire.com, and goblinnest.com, which Jones often discussed negatively.
P. Andrew Torrez flagged the website JoeRoganExposed on Bluesky, raising questions about potential attacks Jones may have had planned against Joe Rogan. The legal dispute over the sale of Infowars concerns issues regarding the terms and conditions of the transfer, with a resolution expected likely in late 2025 or early 2026, although exact timing details are not publicly confirmed.
The name cuckdorsey.com appears to be a reference to Jack Dorsey, former CEO of Twitter who banned Jones. It's not clear when the dispute over the auction of Infowars will be settled in court.
This development comes as Infowars faces financial difficulties, leading to its bankruptcy and eventual sale. The Onion's purchase of Infowars has sparked debate and curiosity, with many wondering how the satirical outlet will handle the controversial content produced by Infowars.
