In a conversation with media outlet Championat, goalkeeper coach Vitaly Kafanov described the development of Matvey Safonov, a graduate of the Krasnodar football school, as unique. The Krasnodar academy is renowned for its strong goalkeeping development system, which has produced players like Matvey Safonov.

The system at Krasnodar emphasizes continuous training and internal competition among goalkeepers. This approach includes structured goalkeeper training, regular specialized sessions focusing on technical skills and game readiness. The academy also integrates products from its youth system with external talents, fostering competition and raising performance levels.

Mathew Safonov's development at Krasnodar was a testament to this comprehensive system. He honed his skills through rigorous practice and match experience, training alongside established goalkeepers such as Stanislav Agkatsev and Alexander Koryakin.

This systematic approach prioritizes a consistent work ethic, learning from experienced peers, and incremental competitive exposure. The success of Krasnodar's goalkeepers, including Matvey Safonov, is attributed to this approach, which was credited to Sergei Nikolaevich Galitsky.

In June 2024, Matvey Safonov transferred from Krasnodar to Paris Saint-Germain, signing a contract until 2029. With his new team, Safonov went on to win the French Championship, Cup, Super Cup, and Champions League. Despite missing the Club World Cup tournament, his team reached the final, losing to London's Chelsea (0:3).

In the past season, Safonov played 17 matches for PSG, conceding 13 goals and recording 7 clean sheets. His transfer fee was a record 20 million euros, a testament to the value of Krasnodar's goalkeeper development system.

Despite the success of its graduates, it's worth noting that the goalkeepers at Krasnodar had different coaches in the academy. This suggests a flexible and adaptable approach, which may contribute to the academy's success.

The academy provides good facilities, proper selection, accommodation, and competent coaches, ensuring a nurturing environment for its goalkeepers. This holistic approach has proven effective, producing stars like Matvey Safonov and contributing to the success of Russian football.
