Jess Carter has been a consistent force for the England's Lionesses team over the recent years, particularly during their record-breaking World Cup run in 2023.
When the Lionesses reached the World Cup final, their success can be attributed to a solid defensive strategy. While many might point to Alex Greenwood as the team's standout player, Jess Carter's performances were equally crucial as England came agonizingly close to winning back-to-back titles.

Jess Carter's Journey
Carter's football journey started early, playing at the elite level right from the beginning.
Originally from Warwick, she signed for Birmingham City at the age of 15 and debuted less than a year later in a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal match against Arsenal in March 2014.
Her impressive debut performance led to a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory and earned her Player of the Match honors. Despite her inexperience, Carter's talent didn't go unnoticed, with national team scouts taking notice, which ultimately led to her being called up to the U19, U20, and U23 squads.
In November 2017, Carter received her first senior call-up, and a move to Emma Hayes' Chelsea soon followed in June 2018. While her impact was limited during her first season with the club, her progress continued thanks to a tailor-made nutrition plan.
Champions and Title-winners
Carter's chance to secure a regular spot in Chelsea's starting lineup came when Maren Mjelde suffered a knee injury during the 2020/21 season. Under new management, Carter impressed as Chelsea reached the Champions League final for the first time, eventually losing to Barcelona.
That year, she also helped Chelsea secure the domestic treble, and, the following year, was part of the England team that won the Euro 2022 tournament. Although her role in the tournament was primarily that of a squad player, Carter became a regular starter under Sarina Wiegman in the ensuing period.
With Wiegman's preferred 3-4-1-2 system in play, Carter became pivotal at the World Cup in 2023. One of the tournament highlights was her shutdown of Linda Caicedo in the quarterfinal win over Colombia, who was considered one of the tournament's standout players up to that point. Carter played every minute of the final and was widely recognized as one of the Lionesses' top performers.
Carter's six-year spell at Chelsea came to an end in the summer of 2024, after winning the WSL title and reaching her 100 appearance milestone for the club. Her girlfriend and former Blues teammate Ann Katrin-Berger had already moved on to play for NJ/NY Gotham in the NWSL earlier in the year, and Carter made the decision to join her.
