Uncovered details on the fatal hangings of two individuals in Mississippi

The death of Demartravion 'Trey' Reed, a 21-year-old Black student at Delta State University, has sparked concern and calls for action from various quarters. Reed was found hanging from a tree on the campus on Sunday, and the investigation into his death is currently underway.

As of now, the investigation has not determined whether Reed's death was a homicide or a suicide. There is no evidence to suggest that he had been physically attacked before his demise. The Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus, deeply concerned about the incident, is continuing to ask questions of local officials and remain engaged as the investigation unfolds.

U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, has called for a federal investigation into Reed's death. He believes that the FBI, with its tools and experience, is best suited to conduct a thorough and unbiased inquiry. Thompson's call comes as the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus closely watches developments to determine what further action, if any, may be necessary to ensure transparency and accountability.

Meanwhile, civil rights attorney Ben Crump has been retained by Reed's family. Crump has called for a full, independent investigation into the young man's death. He emphasises the importance of getting to the truth and ensuring justice for Reed and his family.

In a separate incident, the body of Cory Zukatis was found hanging in a wooded area near the Ameristar Casino in Vicksburg. Zukatis, who was homeless and on drugs at the time of his death, according to the coroner, was deceased. His remains have been sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy, and the autopsy results will determine the cause and manner of his death, as well as if foul play was involved. The Vicksburg Police have confirmed that Zukatis' death was not related to Reed's.

The deaths of Reed and Zukatis serve as a stark reminder of the need for thorough investigations and transparency in such matters. As the investigations into both deaths continue, the affected communities and concerned parties await answers and justice.
