Frankie Montas Moved to Bullpen as Mets Seek Starting Pitching Improvements

The New York Mets have made a change to their starting rotation, with Frankie Montas being moved to the bullpen. This decision comes following Montas' struggles and inconsistent performance, which has seen him post a 6.38 ERA over eight appearances.

In his latest outing against the San Francisco Giants, Montas was hammered for seven runs in four-plus innings. This poor performance, combined with the lack of success from the rest of the starting staff and the limited depth, has made the decision to remove him from the rotation more complex.

Montas' last game was against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon. In this game, he pitched for three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits. However, it was not enough to prevent the team from losing.

The Mets have not yet announced their rotation for the series against the Atlanta Braves, which begins on Tuesday. It is likely that they will call up one of their top pitching prospects, either Brandon Sproat or Nolan McLean, to address the struggling starting staff. Both prospects have shown strong performances at Triple-A and are ahead of other candidates on the depth chart.

The team's pitching rotation has struggled since early June, with the exception of David Peterson, who is the only one who has managed to complete six innings in a game recently. The Mets are currently in a season-altering slump, and this move is a clear indication that they are looking to improve their starting pitching staff.

Manager Carlos Mendoza has not yet decided if Montas will play in the game against the Seattle Mariners on Friday at Citi Field. It is expected that Montas will pitch out of the bullpen starting Thursday and will not make his next scheduled start against the Mariners.

The pitcher who started in place of Montas against the Milwaukee Brewers was Reed Garrett. The Mets are considering shelving Montas to spark some life back into the listless team.

Meanwhile, Tylor Megill and Paul Blackburn are working their way back from injuries and do not have a strong track record. Griffin Canning is out for the season with a ruptured Achilles. The Mets will need to find a solution to their pitching woes if they are to turn their season around.
