Commanders and Raiders Prepare for Sunday Showdown

The Washington Commanders and Las Vegas Raiders are set to square off in a highly anticipated matchup on Sunday afternoon in Landover, Md. The Commanders have an advantage due to rest, as they last played on September 11, while the Raiders lost to the San Diego Chargers on Monday night.

The Commanders will be without running back Austin Ekeler and defensive end Deatrich Wise, Jr., who are out for the season due to injuries. Rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt is expected to start in Ekeler's absence. If Jayden Daniels, the starting quarterback for the Commanders, is unable to play due to a knee sprain suffered in a game last week, Marcus Mariota is expected to start. Daniels did not practice on Wednesday but did undergo a rehab session and some throwing.

Mariota played in three games off the bench for the Commanders last season and has completed 34 of 44 passes for 364 yards and four touchdowns this season. If Daniels is unable to play, veteran Marcus Mariota will likely start for the Commanders.

For the Raiders, Pete Carroll, head coach, stated that they need Brock Bowers to be active throughout the game. Bowers, the tight end, had five catches for 38 yards in his last game and was targeted eight times. Forward Jeremy Chinn (pectoral) and Jackson Powers-Johnson (concussion) were limited in practice on Wednesday for the Raiders.

The Raiders are averaging 14.5 points per game, the second fewest in the league. The Commanders, on the other hand, have a strong edge rusher in Preston Smith, who spent four seasons with the team before moving on to Green Bay. Smith, a veteran edge rusher, was added by the Commanders on Wednesday.

Washington cornerback Jonathan Jones was placed on injured reserve this week and will miss a minimum of four games. Noah Brown, wide receiver for the Commanders, and John Bates, tight end, did not practice on Wednesday due to groin injuries.

The Commanders and Raiders will meet for the second time in three years, with the Commanders winning the last matchup in 2019. The game promises to be an exciting and close contest, with both teams eager to secure their first win of the season.
