Uncertainty in Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) regarding a debate in the plenary about the alleged plot involving the spouse of Rafael Pineda
In a tense Full Council meeting, the spokesperson of Vox, Francisco Javier Páez, posed a question to the mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, that has caused a stir within the municipal group of the PSOE. The question revolves around the lease of a public plot of land in Pino Montano, an issue currently under investigation by the Court of Instruction number 10 of Seville.
The investigation concerns possible favouritism or supposed privileged access to information in the tendering of this concession, which dates back to the year 2016. At that time, the current spokesperson of the PSOE, Antonio Muñoz, held the position of vice-president of Emvisesa.
Páez accused the PSOE of possibly being involved in another episode of socialist clientelism. However, Muñoz responded by stating that the lady of Vox is pouring accusations against his political group, and for now, it cannot be said that there is a crime.
In response to these allegations, the mayor reiterated the City Hall's intention to "be present" in this case and expressed his concern about Emvisesa's name being linked to a possible corruption case. He announced that he has given orders to the current manager of Emvisesa to review the rents of municipal-owned plots.
The mayor also stated that his government's stance will be one of "maximum cooperation with the Court and with the UCO". He advanced that his government's intention is that no more plots will be put up for tender whose price is not supported by a competent technician's appraisal. The mayor also emphasised that on the other hand, the put up plots have a project of interest for the city.
The raid that two agents of the UCO carried out last week in the offices of Emvisesa resulted in the seizure of documentation related to the lease of the aforementioned plot to Olga Pérez Jiménez. This action has caused the socialist benches to become agitated and make gestures at every moment.
It is important to note that Francisco Javier Páez, a councilor in the city council of Seville, was not implicated in connection with the Emvisesa case. Peláez stated that "we are talking about a public land that should be destined for the common good" and that the City Council's actions allowed others to make private business.
In light of these developments, the mayor has vowed to ensure transparency and integrity in all city affairs, and to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
