Sterkrade, a district in Oberhausen, Germany, is gearing up for a retreat on January 28, 2023, at "Klumpen Moritz." The event, titled "Sterkrade and its districts on the way to the future," is expected to be a productive and relaxing weekend for the members of the local branch, as announced by Jörg Schröder.
In recent years, Sterkrade has seen several successful urban development projects. For instance, the small market is being redesigned into an open market without barriers, featuring many trees and a fountain. Already realized projects include the redesign of areas on Tirpitz and Garten streets, which now boast children's playgrounds and seating areas. New kiosks with outdoor gastronomy, green gathering places, and well-designed parking options are part of these redesigns.
One of the notable projects is the new construction of a multi-family house with commercial units on the site of the old Kaiser & Ganz building. For the former mining site on Von-Trotha Street, a winning design has been chosen by an architectural team from Münster for the "Schlaum" competition.
The district is also home to a neighbourhood library with an outdoor garden, repair café, seminar rooms, and an e-bike charging station. Long-standing vacancies in the Sterkrade city center continue to be addressed, particularly with the furniture store (Segmüller) and the Max Bahr and Kaufland properties (Hirsch Group).
However, the district faces significant challenges. The expansion of the Sterkrade train station with the architectural concept "Lichtwelten" and construction work on the L215n in the Weseler/Weier Street area in connection with the expansion of the BETUWE line are ongoing. Many other wish projects are still in planning and negotiations.
The image and marketing concept for Sterkrade is "Strong, Stronger, Sterkrade." District Mayor Ulrich Real will present urban development plans for Sterkrade during the retreat. Detailed information about the outcomes or content of the retreat regarding Sterkrade's urban development is not currently available from the search results. Consulting local government publications from Oberhausen city, specific event minutes from January 2023, or regional news outlets would be necessary for more information.
During the retreat, a small lunch of currywurst was served for the participants. Despite the challenges, the future of Sterkrade looks promising with these ongoing and planned urban development projects.
