Sterkrade, a vibrant city in Germany, is gearing up for an exciting year ahead with numerous projects underway and plans in the pipeline.

The city's local branch, Sterkrade South, is leading the charge, hosting a retreat on January 28, 2023, at "Klumpen Moritz." The retreat aims to bring together members of the community to discuss the city's progress and future plans.

One of the most notable developments in Sterkrade is the redesign of areas on Tirpitz and Garten streets, which now boast children's playgrounds and seating areas. These projects are part of an approved façade program that offers residents the opportunity to renovate or improve the appearance of their homes.

The city is also home to a neighborhood library with an outdoor garden, repair café, seminar rooms, and an e-bike charging station. This community hub is a testament to Sterkrade's commitment to fostering a sustainable and inclusive environment.

In terms of infrastructure, the expansion of the Sterkrade train station, including the architectural concept "Lichtwelten," and the construction measures on the L215n in the Weseler/Weierstraße area in connection with the expansion of the BETUWE line, are significant projects that pose challenges for the city and its citizens.

The city is also in negotiations for many further wish projects, with details yet to be announced. District Mayor Ulrich Real will be present as a guest at the retreat to provide updates and insights into these plans.

Ulrich Real will also present on urban developments and plans in Sterkrade titled "Sterkrade and its Suburbs on the Way to the Future." This presentation is expected to offer a comprehensive overview of the city's development strategies and the role of its suburbs in shaping the city's future.

Efforts are being made to revitalise the Sterkrade city center, with the small market being redesigned into an open market without barriers, featuring many trees and a water fountain. Additionally, road construction works around the Sterkrade train station and the development of a family primary school center around the Steinbrink school are in the implementation phase.

The redevelopment of the old Kaiser & Ganz building is underway, with new construction of a multi-family house with commercial spaces now in progress. The entrances to the Sterkrade city center at Volkspark, Neumarkt, the old town hall, Arnold-Rademacher-Platz, and the train station are also being redesigned.

A winning design for the former industrial site on Von-Trotha Street is available for the "Schlaum" competition. The city is also in talks with the owners of various properties in the Sterkrade city center, including the furniture store (Segmüller) and the Max-Bahr and Kaufland properties (Hirsch Group), to address vacant properties in the area.

As the city moves forward, it is clear that Sterkrade is committed to creating a more vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive environment for its residents. A small currywurst was served as a small lunch for the attendees of the retreat, symbolising the city's commitment to celebrating its rich cultural heritage while looking towards the future.
