Unauthorized voting by a non-citizen reportedly occurred during the 2024 election in a pivotal state, according to law enforcement officials.
In a case that has raised concerns over electoral integrity, Naseef Bryan, a 34-year-old permanent resident from Jamaica, is facing charges for allegedly voting illegally in several elections, including the 2024 presidential primary and general elections.
Bryan, who resides in Manchester, New Hampshire, is being charged with three counts of wrongful voting, accused of knowingly casting illegal votes in a local Manchester election in 2023, the 2024 presidential primary, and the general elections.
The discovery of potential noncitizen voting was made possible by an executive order signed by former President Donald Trump, directing the Department of Homeland Security to provide the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service's SAVE Database to the states. This database was then provided to the states, triggering investigations of noncitizen voters.
The majority of the suspected illegal ballots cast by potential noncitizens were in Harris County, Texas, but investigations are also ongoing in Guadalupe, Cameron, and Eastland counties.
Bryan's arrest comes as concerns over noncitizens illegally voting are growing across the country. In New Hampshire, the Republican-backed law requiring proof of U.S. citizenship for voting was passed in 2024 and took effect after the 2024 presidential election.
Bryan has a history of filing over a dozen lawsuits against various government agencies and individuals. In one filing against USCIS, he references maritime law and requests relief in the form of gold coins. However, the nature of his grievances is unclear due to the filings being "ambiguous and contain[ing] long stretches of writing about disparate topics."
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Democratic Rep. Yvette Clarke of New York recently raised alarms when she suggested in a resurfaced video that she needed immigrants to bolster the numbers in her district for redistricting purposes.
The state of New Hampshire, which has been under Republican control since 2021, topped the annual Heritage Foundation scorecard for the strongest election integrity, with the statement "Hard To Cheat."
As the investigation into Bryan's case continues, it serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. Bryan is scheduled to be arraigned at the Ninth Circuit Court, Manchester District Division, in August. If convicted, he faces between three and a half and seven years in New Hampshire State Prison and a fine of up to $4,000.
