London's Shocking Tennis Wave:

Tatjana Maria, a 37-year-old grass court specialist, has been turning heads in London, making a stunning surge in a WTA-500 tournament and reaching the final for the first time in her career. The German player, known for her unorthodox style and tenacity, knocked out the heavily favored Australian Open champion, Madison Keys, from the USA 6:3, 7:6 (7:3) in the semifinals.

The tournament organizers exclaimed, "The dream run continues." At 37 years and 312 days, the former Wimbledon semifinalist now holds the title of the oldest player to reach a WTA-500 final on grass. Maria will face either the top-seeded Zheng Qinwen from China or the American Amanda Anisimova in the final at the Queen's Club. The tournament is a significant predictor for the upcoming Wimbledon Championships from June 30 to July 13.

Maria has been causing upsets on her favorite surface throughout the tournament. She pulled off another surprise in the quarterfinals by defeating the former Wimbledon champion Jelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan. Earlier, she had beaten the former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez from Canada and the Czech Karolina Muchova. In 2022, Maria made her biggest Grand Slam success by reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon.
