Ice Hockey Megastar Uwe Krupp Joins DEL2's EV Landshut: "It All Happened Rather Quickly"

Hey there, sports fans! Get ready for some juicy ice hockey gossip. The star-studded coaching world just got a bit more intriguing as former German national team coach and two-time Stanley Cup winner Uwe Krupp is set to take charge of DEL2 club EV Landshut.

Cue the dramatic music

Uwe Krupp's entry into EV Landshut was orchestrated by an old acquaintance, Bernd Truntschka. Krupp revealed during his presentation that Truntschka had quizzed him for his thoughts on four potential coaches for the club. Spoiler alert: Krupp not only provided valuable insights but also managed to sell them quite effectively. Eventually, Truntschka asked the question we've all been waiting for: "What are you doing next year?" Chances are, the answer Krupp gave left Truntschka thrilled.

"It happened rather quickly," Krupp (59) grinned, recalling how he signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional season in Landshut just a short while ago.

Landshut, one of the founding clubs of the DEL, is ready for a revival. With Krupp at the helm, the team, which previously finished sixth in the previous season, aims to regain its glory days. “I have the privilege of further advancing this identity and task in a traditional club like Landshut,” Krupp explained, undoubtedly adding fuel to the fire of excitement among the fans.

Krupp, an A-lister in the ice hockey world, knows what it takes to win big. As a player, he tasted success twice by winning the coveted Stanley Cup in the NHL. During a lockout season in the North American elite league, the native Cologne player also stepped onto the Landshut ice for five games in 1994/95.

As a coach, he has proven his mettle by leading the German national team before coaching the Cologne Sharks and the Berlin Polar Bears in the DEL, and most recently, a brief stint with HC Lugano in Switzerland.

Fun fact: Landshut is going to be Krupp's home turf yet again, marking a wonderful full-circle moment in his career.
