In a rally organised by the Islamic Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) at Dolai Khal Truck Stand in the capital today, the IAB Ameer, Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, called for support in the upcoming national election. Karim, in his address, expressed concern about the revival of fascist tendencies in the post-August 5 political space. He stated that successive rulers have repeatedly pushed Bangladesh into disgrace, making it a land of enforced disappearances and killings. However, he did not specify which foreign prescriptions or tendencies he was referring to. The candidate of IAB in the Dhaka-6 constituency for the upcoming national elections is Kamal Uddin. The rally was presided over by the candidate for Dhaka-6 constituency, Alhaj Manowar Khan. Karim urged the voters of Dhaka-6 constituency to elect the 'hatpakha' (hand fan) symbol to victory. He urged against supporting killers and extortionists, and warned against attempts to govern Bangladesh based on foreign prescriptions. The rally was attended by Principal Hafez Maulana Yunus Ahmad, Maulana Muhammad Imtiaz Alam, KM Atikur Rahman, KM Shariatullah, and Dr. Muhammad Shahidul Islam, among others. Rezaul Karim also expressed that the people now want to place their trust in the beauty of Islam.
