Unacceptable Behavior Towards a Female National Service Personnel in Anambra Denounced by Obi
In the heart of Anambra State, a disturbing incident has unfolded, with former Anambra State governor Peter Obi strongly condemning the assault on a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member named Jenifer Elobor.
The assault, perpetrated by vigilante operatives, has drawn widespread outrage and condemnation, including from the NYSC itself. The incident has sparked the social media hashtag #JusticeForJennifer, reflecting the broad public demand for accountability and justice.
In a statement issued via his official X handle on Tuesday, Obi described the attack as "inhumane, primitive, and a direct assault on our collective humanity." He expressed shock over the development and stated that such barbarity has no place in a society striving for progress in 2025.
As an Anambrian, Obi feels ashamed and deeply heartbroken that such cruelty could happen in his home state. He emphasized that no society should condone the abuse or humiliation of its citizens, particularly women and vulnerable people.
Obi demands that those responsible be made examples to deter future acts of savagery. Beyond prosecution, he advocates for stronger policies and community safeguards to protect vulnerable people and uphold the dignity of Nigerians.
The Anambra State government has also condemned the assault on Elobor and has taken action against the involved security operatives.
In his statement, Obi calls on relevant authorities to take immediate action against the assault on Elobor and to ensure that justice is served. The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party believes that the protection of humanity should always be a priority, and he urges all Nigerians to stand together in the fight against such inhumane acts.
